Elijah Manley for Broward County School Board

Elijah Manley is running to put balance on the ballot, to fight privatization and lack of transparency. No special interests.

Here's why

Elijah Manley talks about why he's the best choice for the Broward County School Board.

About Me

Official Portrait

My background

My name is Elijah Manley, and I'm a political activist. I was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I am a proud graduated of Fort Lauderdale High, and I am running to be your next Representative on the Broward County School Board. I am a community organizer, educational reform activist, and a writer. I am studying political science at Broward College and will pursue a career in constitutional law. When I am not engaged in politics, I spend my time writing, helping people, organizing action, and traveling.

My top issues

I believe that it is time to invest in public education, by funding the arts, special education, entertainment, and by paying our teacher more. We are struggling as a district because our school board officials are not spending taxpayer dollars wisely. As a full time board member, I will fight for fiscal transparency and lower taxes. You can count on me to ensure our schools are safe, and secure.

Involvement & Activism

Here are some of the organizations I serve on:

  • Vice President/Board of Directors at the National Youth Rights Association
  • Publisher/CEO at Holt Press, a digital news service
  • Activist at the Black Lives Matter Alliance of Broward
  • Member of the Miami Climate Alliance
  • Member of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH)
  • National Delegate
  • Campaigns I worked on and supported: Charlie Crist for Governor (2014), Alcee Hastings for Congress (2014), Perry Thurston for FL AG (2014), Dean Trantalis (2015/2018), Dale Holness (2016), etc.

Accomplishments & Big things

Fought to ban fracking in Broward County successfully

Along with several other strong activists, we defeated fracking in Broward County.

Fought for Police Reform

Along with the Black Lives Matter Alliance, I have been on the front lines side-by-side with other activists, fighting for police reform.

Organizing for Free Tuittion

Organized communities in support of Tuition free college and education.

Licensed Life Insurance Professional

I am a licensed professional in the life insurance industry, and specialize in underwriting insurance policy. I am currently seeking an investments license, and a real estate license.

Recent graduate of the BCPS

Some people say that I am too young to lead. However, my experience as a recent graduate of the Broward County Public School System gives me the insight into what needs to be done for our schools. Neither of my opponents have been in school for the past 25+ years.

Life experience

The truth is, we all have life experiences that we can bring to the table. As a survivor of rape, I can understand the plight of students who face sexual violence. As someone who grew up with a single mom and less fortunate, I will be able to make decisions with an understanding of its impact.
